My mum and dad, they sacrificed a lot for me to be who I am today, and I’m just proud.

These were the words of Fijian born Chiefs winger Emoni Narawa who is still buzzing at the moment, adding it hasn’t really sunk in yet about finding out his inclusion into Ian Fosters 36-man All Blacks squad for the Rugby Championship.

Narawa luckily had partner Danielle, one-year-old daughter Milla, and Chiefs team-mates and flatmates Alex Nankivell and Manaaki Selby-Rickit for company in his big moment.

A call to his emotional parents back in Fiji soon followed, with Narawa, 23, having come to New Zealand in 2017 via a scholarship to Hamilton Boys’ High School.

He says his parents were still looking for the channel to watch the announcement, as he tried to hold it together.

The 23-year-old further says he didn’t even dream of being where he is today as everything’s just happened so fast.

While All Blacks coach Ian Foster had been impressed with Narawa’s flashy feats last year, he noted the step up this season.

All Blacks coach Ian Foster say he has just come in with a heck of a lot of confidence and he has got a good kicking game, his wide ruck contact work’s outstanding, and his acceleration into contact, he’s got no fear in terms of that space.

Foster adds Narawa just banged the door down, really, with the way he’s played.

The Chiefs play the Crusaders in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific Final at 7.05pm Saturday.
