More women representation needed in Parliament - Ro Teimumu

SODELPA Vice President Ro Teimumu Kepa has urged all women that are present during the SODELPA Women's Annual General Meeting to register for the upcoming elections because there is a need for more women to be represented in Parliament.

Ro Teimumu says before Lynda Tabuya and Mereseini Rakuita resigned from parliament, women's representation in parliament was at 21% but when they left, the number has reduced to 19%.

She says SODELPA is aiming to increase this to 30% which is why they are encouraging more women to step up and become a candidate in the next elections.

She adds the next election will be an exciting event and people must decide themselves on what type of leadership they need to lead the government for the next 4 years.

The SODELPA MP says people have seen how this government has governed in the last 15 years when they have been in power and she is urging people who will be voting to clearly understand and know what they need from the new government before casting their votes.

Two new Vice Presidents for SODELPA Women will be elected during the AGM. Officials from the Fijian Elections Office are also present at the meeting venue in Suva to do new registrations and register women who wish to make changes to their registration.

Party President Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, Party Leader Viliame Gavoka, Party General Secretary Lenaitasi Duru and SODELPA MPs Simione Rasova and Tanya Waqanika were also present.
