More than 15,000 people have been educated on crime and illicit drugs prevention during the Digicel Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival 2024 in Labasa.

Carnival Committee Chairperson, Satish Kumar highlighted this in an interview with fijivillage News and says the carnival was a success as people had the opportunity to know how they can refrain from getting involved in criminal activities.

Kumar says contestants spoke about crime as they want to make their country a safer and better place for all.

The Chairperson says they raised $119,300 and the money will be going towards carrying out projects that will benefit the people of Labasa.

He says they will be spending about $15,000 in building a new toilet facility at the Subrail Park Ground 2 which was requested by the Labasa Town Council.

Kumar further says they also have plans for some other projects.

He adds that last year they installed 32 cameras around Labasa Town.

Meanhwile, Lucy Tuinaceva was crowned as Miss Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival and Inosi Muanikiwai Waqawaqa was crowned as the King.
