More than 100 women who are struggling to provide for their families due to COVID-19 took part in a training session organized by FRIEND Fiji today on how they can use crops such as cassava and kumala to make flour, noodles, biscuits and other things.
Majority of these women are from the Denarau area who either lost their jobs or are on reduced hours.
FRIEND Founder and CEO Sashi Kiran says they are teaching these women on how they can make some of the things at home by using root crops.
Anjani Nair who is a single mother says the training has taught her on how she can use these root crops to make what she cannot afford to buy.
Nair says she is only working two days in a week and has also started a small catering business to support her family.
62-year-old Acalia Dokonaivalu says the training is really important as it helps them to be resilient and not rely on others for assistance.
