Drug-Free World Fiji Founder Kalesi Volatabu

Drug-Free World Fiji Founder Kalesi Volatabu says they are seeing an increasing number of people who are using or selling drugs in schools.

Volatabu has highlighted this while responding to a question on the relation between COVID-19, mental health issues and drug abuse on fijivillage Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan.

The founder says peddlers are targeting young people to sell drugs in exchange for money and are even giving it for free to get people hooked.

She says she is quite shocked that it is the young people now compared to adults who are methamphetamine users.

Volatabu further says COVID drove people to sell drugs because it is one way of making money as a lot of people were put off work.

She says when they were at home and depressed they would reach out to marijuana or ice just to numb whatever they were going through.

Volatabu is calling on parents to spend more time with their children and create a platform where they can come to the parents first and talk to them.
