More people are being employed or re-employed since the re-opening of borders – FNPF

More people are being employed or re-employed since the re-opening of borders in December last year.

This has been highlighted by Fiji National Provident Fund General Manger Member Services, Alipate Waqairawai who says they are seeing an increase in member contribution on a monthly basis.

He says pre-COVID they used to receive monthly contributions of $50 to $55 million from workers but after COVID it went down to $20 to $25 million.

Waqairawai says it is is now around $27 million and on an upward trajectory and recovery.

The FNPF also registered about 19,500 new members this financial year.

He further says in the last financial year, which ended in June 2021, there were 58,712 accounts with zero balances that they dedicated resources to clean up and adds FNPF cannot close the zero balance accounts unless the member retires at 55.
