Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau and Permanent Secretary for Environment, Joshua Wycliffe say an investigation has begun into the matter where several bundles of dead fish were found at the Nasese seashore yesterday morning.

This comes after British Deputy High Commissioner to Fiji, Paul Welsh shared photos on his Facebook page where several bundles of fish are seen at the waters edge and he asked what is the cause of this.

He says there were about 100-200 fish and they looked as though they had only recently been put there.

Welsh says they were all in one one small area just by the sea wall, close to the FNU Nasese Campus.

Koroilavesau says just by looking at the photos, it looks like the fish have been dumped into the sea as they have gone bad.

He says an update will be provided after the investigation.

Meanwhile, Wycliffe says there appears to be already dead fish being thrown into the water, however, the Department of Environment won't take chances.

He says an investigation has been initiated which includes water sampling and appropriate testing.
