Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport Faiyaz Koya says they undertook 63 trainings in the last financial year which empowered more than 1,300 Fijians in confidently starting, improving and expanding their business ventures.

He made these comments while speaking at the opening of the basic business training organised by the Rainbow Pride Foundation.

Koya says they continue to elevate as many Fijians as they can through their training and capacity building programs so that no community is left behind in this commercially driven world.

He says their programs looked at how people can start, improve and grow their businesses.

Koya adds they also look at basic bookkeeping, budgeting, costing and pricing, post-disaster business recovery, personal entrepreneurial competence and co-operative management.

The Minister says in his travels around Fiji, he has seen just how blessed we are to be born by so much creativity.

Koya says there are cases where creativity never truly flourishes because there is no helping hand to guide its fruition.

He says the Ministry has been allocated $500,000 in the revised budget for the Trade Enhancement Program which aims to assist trade-based MSMEs through a $500 start-up funding for purchasing items their business.
