Minister for Employment, Agni Deo Singh says the Ministry would love to continue working and engaging in dialogue with the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation to develop amicable solutions.

He highlighted this while opening consultations with the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation on the Bill to amend the Employment Relations Act and the Work Care Bill.

The Federation had earlier raised concerns about the limited timeframe for public consultation and other provisions within the ERA.

Singh says he had invited Federation CEO Edward Bernard to his office for a talanoa session, after which he requested a formal session.

He stresses these two bills are still in their draft form and that nothing has been finalised.

Singh says after the consultation process, the matter will go back to the Employment Relations Advisory Board.

He adds after ERAB, it will be submitted to the Cabinet.

Singh says after Cabinet, they are targeting the March session of Parliament and following the first reading in Parliament, the bill will be referred to the sector committee, which will then bring it back for public consultations.

He say thereafter, the final bill will return to Parliament for enactment.

The Minister stresses that this is the process they will follow. He believes that they have conducted exhaustive consultations throughout the country.

Today is the last day to make submissions on the Bill to amend the ERA and Work Care Bill.
