A huge Damian McKenzie penalty goal sealed a 26-23 victory for the Chiefs over the Highlanders in golden point to enhance their grand final prospects.
McKenzie had a chance to break the Highlanders hearts in Dunedin as the siren went in regular time, but his miss ushered in the first extra time in Super Rugby Aotearoa history.
After Josh Ioane missed a relatively simple drop-goal attempt from right in front, Anton Lienert-Brown won a breakdown penalty to give McKenzie another chance to win it.
From 48 metres out, almost at the same spot where he missed his previous attempt, McKenzie made no mistake.
Etene Nanai-Seturo and Angus Ta'avao scored a try each for the Chiefs.
The Highlanders points came from a try each to James Lentjes, Aaron Smith and Josh Ioane.
Meanwhile, the Crusaders will take on the Hurricanes at 3.35 this afternoon.
