A great example of giving back to the community is what former Mokani Rugby club player Lepani Matea Jnr did as he donated training canvas shoes to his former club, which will assist the players in their off-season training for upcoming 2024 rugby club competitions.
Mokani Rugby Club President Joseph Rodan Snr says they are very grateful to the Matea’s family for the kind donation because they won’t be able to provide everything that is needed for players to actually train, and to play the sport.
He says the Club have a good working relationship with their ex-players, supporters and sponsors.
Rodan Snr says this kind of initiative will improve the fitness of their team members so that they can showcase their talent for selection to the Tailevu Rugby Team, national level and overseas contract.
He adds that they are hopeful that this year they will secure more sponsors and assistance to improve their grassroots rugby club and allow the club to go from strength to strength.
Matea says it was great to meet their brothers, who are now playing for the Mokani Rugby Club, and his family has passion and support for their village rugby club and their plans to move forward and be successful.
He encourages the players to set their personal goals and strive for the best.
He says most of the players are attending secondary and tertiary education, and this donation can assist them in their daily training.
Matea further says that it has always been a desire for him to be a part of the development of the Mokani Rugby, and with great humility and a humble heart, they lends a small token of happiness in the face of the team.
He adds that it is their prayer that there will be more doors opening in the near future.
