Man charged with manslaughter as ODPP files 16 serious offence cases in February

A 38-year-old man was charged with the manslaughter of a 30-year-old man last month.

This has been confirmed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions who says the accused person allegedly punched and kicked the victim causing him severe injuries which later resulted in his death.

The ODPP says there were 16 serious non-sexual offence cases filed in the High Court with a total of 24 counts of serious offences in February.

The counts for serious offences include 1 for manslaughter, 3 aggravated robbery, 2 burglary, 5 aggravated burglary, 7 theft, 1 arson, 1 act with intent to cause grievous harm, 1 grievous harm, 1 failure to give fingerprint to a public officer, 1 giving false information to a public officer one and unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

There were 21 people charged with a total of 24 counts of serious offences where five were under the age of 18.

There were 15 victims of the 24 counts of serious offences.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with the unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

He was allegedly found in possession of 6.8 grams of marijuana.

There was one incident where two 17-year-old boys were charged with aggravated burglary and theft.

They allegedly broke into a school and stole various stationaries, brush cutter and extension cords.

In another incident, a 17-year-old boy alongside an 18-year-old and a 22-year-old man were charged with the aggravated robbery.

The accused persons allegedly stole a mobile phone and $373 cash from a 38-year-old man.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with aggravated burglary and theft however, this matter was discontinued due to insufficient evidence.

An 18-year-old man was charged with an act with intent to cause grievous harm to a 33-year-old man.

The accused person allegedly unlawfully wounded the victim with an iron rod.

In another incident, a 43-year-old man was charged with the grievous harm of a 50-year-old man.

Cash and assorted items were stolen during the alleged aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary offences which consisted of house and school break-ins, and day and night street muggings.

There was one incident where a 26-year-old man was charged with the aggravated robbery and false information to a public officer.

The accused person allegedly robbed $8,000 from a 69-year-old man and gave false name to the police officer.

In another incident, a 32-year-old man was charged with burglary, theft and failure to give fingerprint to a public officer, however, this matter was discontinued due to insufficient evidence.

The ODPP says three cases were withdrawn after discontinuances were filed due to insufficient evidence.
