Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Alvick Maharaj and SODELPA MP, Niko Nawaikula

Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Alvick Maharaj says the parties in the Opposition can’t see what the Prime Minister is doing and he also says isn’t it the arrogance of majority of the Opposition MPs that they can’t see how the Attorney General is performing and leading the nation.

Maharaj says these parties just want to get into power.

He says the leadership of the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama and the prudent financial management by the Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum through reforms of financial systems is allowing us to flourish as a nation.

Maharaj says so much division was caused from the 1987 coup, and he also called on People’s Alliance Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka to stop trying to make a comeback to destroy Fiji.

He says it is amazing how we hear members in parliament preach about God, love for each and living in harmony and the very next moment, when they are out of parliament, they are advocating discrimination and hatred.

Maharaj asks why do we put our personal agenda well before the nation.

He says a typical example is SODELPA MP, Mitieli Bulanauca saying no to vaccination when his own leader says yes to vaccination. Maharaj says Bulanauca then goes and gets vaccinated himself.

He says it is not about Bulanauca but it is about our people who suffer at the end as they believe and trust them.

Maharaj then said that SODELPA MP, Niko Nawaikula went around in 2000 telling landowning units not to renew sugar cane leases. He asks what good was done for such irresponsible behaviour as thousands of acres are now lying idle and the economy of Vanua Levu was brought to it’s knees because of the actions of an irresponsible member of parliament calling himself a saviour of the indigenous community in this country.

Maharaj also made allegations that Nawaikula is representing a bogus company which is dealing with a landowning unit in Macuata.

Following Maharaj’s comments in parliament, Nawaikula has denied that he was involved in the non renewal of leases in 2000.

Nawaikula also rejects the allegations regarding the bogus company, and calls on Maharaj to make the same comments outside parliament so that he can take action against him.
