Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs Manoa Kamikamica and Vodafone Fiji’s Head of eCommerce and Financial Services Shailendra Prasad

The transformation of M-PAiSA has been one of the major benefits allowing small businesses to flourish through which entrepreneurs conduct business easily.

This was highlighted by the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs Manoa Kamikamica while speaking on fijivillage Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan.

Kamikamica says the transformation of M-PAiSA on different platforms has made it easier for people to transfer funds and transact in Fiji.

He says this is a very convenient system as before people had to go to the banks and stand in the queue to do transactions or send money.

The minister says it was also easy for the government to send money directly to parents during the $200 back-to-school assistance.

Vodafone Fiji’s Head of eCommerce and Financial Services Shailendra Prasad says M-PAiSA is the future of going cashless.

He says 52 percent of its users are female which has been great for women’s empowerment as well.

Prasad says last year Vodafone processed $6.95 billion of transactions through M-PAiSA whereby $1.6 billion was domestic transfers, from people to people and bought $52.6 million of remittances.

He says due to this there is greater transparency and accountability

Prasad further says one of the reasons why Fiji has improved so significantly after the COVID-19 pandemic is because the money kept circulating in the economy.
