Lupus Foundation Fiji will be having their first-ever Charity Ball next month to try and establish an office space where they can operate from.

Foundation Executive Director Una Tuitubou says since she is operating from home, having an office will help them go out and create awareness on Lupus which is a chronic disease with no cure.

Lupus is a long-term auto immune disease in which the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue.

Symptoms include inflammation, swelling, and damage to the joints, skin, kidneys, blood, heart and lungs.

Tuitubou says they are starting from scratch and they will need to get office equipment and awareness materials.

She says they are also calling for sponsors to come forward and help them in trying to establish this office and their awareness campaign to spread the word on the dangerous effects of Lupus.

Tuitubou says Lupus, for the iTaukei people is one of the diseases which is regarded as a witchcraft disease and there is a need to change this mindset.

She says this is why awareness is critical as they also work with Counterstroke Fiji.

The Charity Ball will be held at 6pm on May 29th at Central Cuisine Restaurant at Laucala Bay. Tickets are $150 each.

If you want to assist the Lupus Foundation Fiji you can contact the Foundation Executive Director Una Tuitubou on 8694112.
