Concerns have been raised by some members of the community in Koronivia, Nausori regarding the number of drunk and disorderly incidents however Police have said that none of the cases are liquor related like drunk and disorderly in public place or drinking in public place.

According to some residents, there have been cases of drunk people throwing stones at their cars, and misbehaviour leading to fights and arguments.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says all the reports from Koronivia have been attended to and classified from which the elements gathered most cases received are of civil land disputes.

Naisoro says the cases from Koronivia are declining, with 10 cases reported from January till now.

She says there was 1 case reported in January, 5 reports received in June and 3 reports received in July but none are liquor related.

However, some residents who wish to remain anonymous say they are not reporting some of these cases as they are worried that the perpetrators may harm them more and that most of the time police officers are late in attending to these cases.

Naisoro further states that the Eastern Division Command will be looking into these concerns and conducting snap checks not only in the Koronivia area but also from Wainibuku to Nayavu.

She also encourages the community members to link up with their divisional manager community policing in setting up crime prevention watch zones and committees as they greatly assist with crime prevention efforts. She says if people choose not to report, then the police would not be in a position to assist.

Therefore, she urges people to report such cases.
