Kasami calls for more iTaukei issues on GCC meeting agenda and re-introduction of the iTaukei Court

The Chairman of the Bose Vanua of Ra, Osea Kasami is calling on the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs to ensure that the program for the Great Council of Chiefs meeting that will be held on Bau Island, will have the issues and solutions that the iTaukei people are facing.

While speaking during the Review of the GCC consultation at Dadamu Village Hall in Nanukuloa, Ra, Kasami says the GCC meeting program is always set up by the iTaukei Ministry and most of the time, it does not fit the expectations of what is being faced on the ground.

He claims the Ministry always has its own agenda, and he urges them to first consult with the provincial, district and village leaders and the Provincial Council on the needs of the people before setting up the meeting program.

He is also calling for the re-introduction of the iTaukei Court because it is evident nowadays that the behaviour of our youth is getting out of control.

He also says this court was there before, and people, especially the iTaukei, went to jail for committing crimes in the village settings.

The Chairman, who was also a member of the previous GCC, says the previous Council was mostly influenced by politics because the Government then always looked for guidance from the GCC or looked for support from the GCC about their plans.

He hopes that this will change when the new Council sits next week.

The GCC will sit next Wednesday and Thursday on Bau Island.
