Commercial kava producer, Kai Veikau Kava is providing a one month training program for people from the ages of 18 to 30 years who have lost their jobs after COVID-19 and are interested in starting up their own kava farms.

The training is done in their farm based in Wailevu East in Vanua Levu.

Managing Director of Kai Veikau Kava, Lyndy Simpson says they came with this idea after COVID-19 left people jobless and most of them wanted to go back to farming but they had nothing to start up with.

Simpson says at the end of the job training program, kava cuttings will be given to each graduate and this will get them started on their own farms with all they have learned.

She says selected applicants will be offered on site accommodation and meals for the duration of the one month program.

Simpson says this is a first for them as they would like to offer young people looking to venture into the agricultural sector in their future, and because this is a trial program they are limiting the intake of interested parties to only four people.

They have completed their first month and have taken in their second round of local volunteers on Monday.

Kai Veikau Kava was established six years ago.
