It was a memorable day for Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew as he witnessed some of his seniors being part of the Police Mobile Force’s 50th Anniversary today.

According to Chew, he started as a Constable at the Police Mobile Force in the 90s.

He says today is a significant day because a lot of officers who have served here have passed on while some have retired but have managed to make it to the celebration.

Chew says the Mobile Force was established to assist other Police Stations if there is an upheaval in various divisions.

When asked on what was his most memorable moment at the Police Mobile Force, the Acting Police Commissioner says it was running around the tarmac with no shirts but only their boot and trousers during their drills.

He says this was from 8am to 1pm, and it moulded them as Constables.

He adds most of the officers who came through the Police Mobile Force are sitting in leadership positions.

Speaking on behalf of the British High Commissioner, Defence Advisor to Fiji, Lt Col Sophia Waters acknowledged the Force for the years of hard work and service to the nation.

She says they understand the Police are working in a stressful environment, but it's great to have such celebrations to ease the work of officers. Lt Col Waters also acknowledged the leadership for staying true to their roles.

The Police Mobile Force was filled with vibrant colours as a huge number of former PSRU members, retired officers, and family members gathered to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its service.

To commemorate the 50th Anniversary, they also unveiled a monument to remember those who gave their lives to serve the people of Fiji.

The Police Mobile Force was founded in 1973.
