Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar.

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar says it is a great concern for them to know that women are turning up at hospitals in the late stages of breast cancer.

While speaking at a Pinktober event organised by the Ministry, Akbar says what the surgeons are seeing is at a very last stage.

She says early detection saves lives and like any disease, it should not be ignored.

Akbar says there is a need to show the reality of what the disease looks like and we need to start talking boldly and frankly.

She also says talking about breast was a taboo subject but talking about it more has enabled lives to be saved.

The Minister says we will be able to save women if they reach hospitals earlier.

She says every woman should prioritise herself.

Akbar says spouse support and every other form of support is very important.

Meanwhile, Minister for Commerce, Faiyaz Koya is also urging men to get checked for breast cancer when they go for their annual check-up.

He highlighted that about 70% of the cases present themselves at the hospital at a late stage.

Koya is also urging everyone to live a healthy life.
