Fiji has recorded 10 deaths from Leptospirosis this year and intensive cleaning is taking place around the country with even the President Jioji Konrote stepping out to help yesterday.

While speaking after the Leptospirosis, Typhoid, Dengue and Diarrhoea Clean-up Campaign at Nanuku Settlement, Minister for National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu says the number of deaths is very concerning.

Seruiratu says government agencies have been heavily involved in this clean-up campaign.

He says although the focus is on COVID-19, we have to understand that no one has lost their lives from it but people have died from leptospirosis this year.

Meanwhile, civil servants in the Western and Northern divisions have been doing cleanup campaigns.

Officers from all government agencies have been out and about for the past weeks, cleaning areas, destroying breeding places for mosquitoes and beautifying places.

This is in line with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama's announcement on a nationwide door to door campaign to combat the potential outbreak of Leptospirosis, Typhoid, Dengue and Diarrhoea.
