Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he will never accept the idea that even one family or one person is left behind in the modern economy.

Bainimarama highlighted this while commissioning the seawall and tar-sealed road at Tokou Village in Ovalau this afternoon.

He says the new road, with a retaining wall to protect it from the sea, replaces one that had become work and rutted, as roads do.

Bainimarama says modern transportation infrastructure is critical to the economy and to the social fabric of the country. He highlighted that it has been a priority of his government to upgrade the transportation infrastructure throughout the country which means highways, roads, bridges, jetties and ferries.

Bainimarama says a reliable transportation network links communities together.

He says it helps people get their goods and crops to market, allows people to get to their workplaces and children to get to their schools and it is the backbone of a modern tourism industry.

Bainimarama it also ensures that help can arrive at a home or a village at a time of dire emergency which ensures that no one is isolated or left behind.
