The CEO of FRIEND Fiji, Sashi Kiran says she will be forever grateful to the late Professor Brij Lal who has taken his time to put together documentation to help the Indian descendants know where they come from.

While speaking virtually at the Condolence Gathering for Professor Lal, Kiran says as a young Girmitiya descendant she needed to find her roots and needed to know who she was.

She says Professor Lal would write to her to give her strength during the pandemic and these challenging times.

Kiran adds that this shows that his heart was always in Fiji.

She says Professor Lal had said in an email that he had accepted his fate and he is no longer going to fight, but all he wanted was to go in peace.

Kiran says at that time when she read his email she was angry and said to herself that Professor Lal cannot give up on Fiji that way.

Kiran says he was a man who was consistent with his values.

She says she was totally shattered when she found out that Dr Padma Narsey-Lal reached out to them saying that in lieu of flowers they would like donations to go to towards the welfare work of FRIEND Fiji.
