I want people to read my stories and remember me, even when I am not here and get inspired.

This has been shared by Uttra Gurdayal while speaking to fijivillage News after the launch of her books – Saahas, Jeevan Ki Muskaan and Frangipani at the Hindi Sammelan 2025.

Gurdayal’s books were launched by Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad at the event.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Gurdayal shares that her love for reading other people’s work sparked her journey as a writer.

She says her first book, Saahas, focuses on empowering women by addressing issues such as domestic violence, poverty and societal rejection.

She says she believes her words can inspire courage and bring about change for those who feel voiceless.

She further says her second book, Jeevan Ki Muskaan, delves into themes of wealth disparity, farmers' struggles and the importance of preserving cultural and moral values.

She says it focuses on humanity, service to parents, and nurturing children’s ethics, with stories aimed at inspiring young minds.

She adds that her third book, Frangipani, is a collection of poetry that blends imagination and reality.

She says through her poems, she brings hope to those who are suffering, particularly women, encouraging them to break free from societal norms and live with dignity.

When asked about her future plans, Gurdayal says she is working on a story about Girmit, exploring the lives and struggles of indentured laborers.

She says she has started research on this topic and plans to continue writing for as long as she can, hoping her work will inspire future generations.

When fijivillage asked about the status of Hindi, Gurdayal expresses concern over the declining interest in the language among students.

She says many high school students drop Hindi for other subjects, often influenced by parents who prioritize career-oriented education.

Gurdayal says she believes parents should encourage children to study Hindi through high school and university, as it plays a crucial role in preserving traditions and maintaining a connection to their roots.

Gurdayal also urges retirees to excel in talents they may have never had the opportunity to explore before retirement.

She says life does not stop after retirement and advises retirees to keep moving forward and find joy in every moment.
