Doctor and singer of the hit song “Mera Maal” Doctor Ravniel Singh who is also known as Ra V says they held the song back for about 9 years because he was skeptical about what others may think of the title of the song.

The song which also features another local artist, Harsha Harshmeetal is playing on top Hindi station, Navtarang and is also being widely shared on social media and is getting a lot of positive reviews.

It has also had more than 16,000 views on Youtube.

Singh who has recorded five songs started singing when he was a child and thought about making his own music upon realising that he was getting better at it.

The former Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School student also says that he has received no professional training in singing and has learnt everything on his own.

His first song was an iTaukei song “Yaloqu” which he wrote with some government workers when he was a Medical Officer at Koro Island.

The song was about a boy who is missing his girlfriend.

He says he starting singing again at medical school.

Singh says he and his friend Javin Kumar who is the Director of the video wrote “Mera Maal” when they were medical students and had no intention of releasing it.

The 31-year-old doctor says he was worried about what others may think of the word “maal” but it is now regarded as a normal word and he thought it might be catchy with the young generation.

Singh adds the biggest challenge they faced while making the video was finding the actors, looking for locations and taking out time for it because of their hectic schedules.

Singh has also been nominated for six awards in the 2021 FPRA Awards which includes Artist of the Year, Best Hindi Song and Best English Song.
