The Hurricanes have suffered an injury blow after confirming that one-test All-Black Ruben Love will miss the start of the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.

The Hurricanes said in a statement that Love has undergone surgery on an ankle injury and is facing three to four months out.

Super Rugby teams have started pre-season training this month for the 2025 campaign, with the Hurricanes facing the Crusaders in Christchurch in their opener on February 14th.

Love’s anticipated recovery time means he won’t be available until at least March or April and could miss half of the season.

The Hurricanes said the 23-year-old fullback had been managing an ankle injury through the year and opted for surgery this summer.

Love said in a statement that he looks forward to being back to full fitness next year to represent the people of the Hurricanes region and going to battle with his brothers.

Love made his test debut off the bench in Tokyo in October and scored two tries as the All Blacks thrashed Japan 64-19.

He has played 30 times for the Hurricanes since his Super Rugby debut in 2021 and has emerged as a key player among their outside backs.
