The Chinese community in Fiji and residents of Nausori gathered in numbers at the Nausori Plaza to celebrate Chinese New Year and the official opening of the Plaza today.

While officiating at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad says these events mark an exciting chapter in our shared journey, one filled with hope, prosperity, and unity.

He says the Chinese New Year is more than just a cultural tradition; it is an occasion to reflect on timeless values that transcend borders and resonate deeply with all.

Professor Prasad says values such as home, harmony, health, and hope are the principles that reflect the spirit of community and unity that we hold dear in Fiji.

He adds that at the same time, the opening of the Nausori Plaza is a symbol of the growth and progress we have made, a testament to the continued confidence of the Chinese community in the future of Fiji.

The Deputy Prime Minister says this magnificent development is not only a commercial hub but also a beacon of hope, opportunity, and collaboration, serving as a reflection of our strong bilateral ties.

He says with its retail spaces, restaurants, food court, offices, residential apartments, and a 36-room hotel, this modern complex reflects the dynamic growth that Nausori is experiencing.

Professor Prasad firmly believes that this plaza will serve as a place for people to come together, connect, and create lasting memories. He adds this $30 million investment, spread over three levels and spanning approximately 15,000 square metres, is a significant milestone for Nausori and a clear demonstration of the importance of strategic development in driving local economic growth.

The Minister says with 41 units available, the Nausori Plaza will offer local businesses and entrepreneurs numerous opportunities to thrive and expand. Professor Prasad says the benefits of this project extend far beyond its physical structure as it has already created employment opportunities for many in the local community, and it will continue to provide jobs in retail, hospitality, and other sectors.

He says the plaza provides a platform for small and medium enterprises to grow and succeed, contributing to the revitalization of local businesses and industries.

The Deputy Prime Minister says local employees will gain valuable skills and expertise, enhancing the capacity of the workforce and this development will have a multiplier effect and generate further investments and boost economic activity, benefiting not only Nausori but also nearby towns and villages.
