Minister for Education, Premila Kumar says there has been a huge development in the education sector and we all need to appreciate Government’s investment to make education free and also ease the burden of school managements.

While speaking at Nalovo Sangam Primary School in Nadi, Kumar says a school in the West had to sell two acres of their land to collect money to pay their grant-in-aid teachers in the past, however all the teachers are now paid by the Government.

Kumar says people sometimes tend to forget the past and only appreciate the present.

The Minister for Education adds investment in education has been made to ease the burden of school managements who had to work hard to collect money and children also had to take part in fundraising events, diverting their attention away from studies.

Kumar says as a Government, they want a return on the investment on education where they simply want children to be educated to ensure they join the workforce or they can create jobs for themselves.

Meanwhile, Nalovo Sangam Primary School has received an overhead projector, an interactive smart TV, 40 chairs and 40 desks as part of special grant assistance from the Korean Embassy today. The items are worth around $12,200.

Kumar also visited Nawai Secondary School today where the school received $1,200 worth of industrial arts tools.
