The Housing Authority of Fiji has extended its COVID-19 Debt Relief Assistance till 31st December 2021 which will be done on a case by case basis.

As at 31 August 2021, the Authority has deferred repayment in mortgages of 639 customers with a total loan value of $29.27 million.

The Housing Authority says this assistance is for customers that are facing financial hardship brought by the impacts of COVID-19 which includes people who are unemployed, those who are on reduced working hours or leave without pay.

They say assistance is four-fold including a 3 month holiday on repayment of loan, extension of the term of the loan without any fees, repayment of interest only and 3 months holiday on the repayment of the loan with extension to the term of the loan.

The Authority says the deferment in debt ensures that the account of customers do not fall into arrears at any time and allows to defer repayments after three months until the financial hardship eases.
