Former Waratahs skipper Michael Hooper is backing the young group of players in the current team to work hard and turn things around this week in their clash against the Western Force in Super Rugby Australia.

The Waratahs are currently winless, losing 41-7 to the Reds in round 1 and a record 61-10 hammering to the Brumbies last week.

The disastrous results have heaped pressure on coach Rob Penney, who has said he will be "happy to go gracefully" if the club deemed he isn't the right man to take the team forward.

The 29-year-old who is currently on sabbatical leave with Japanese Top League club Toyota Verblitz says its been tough watching from afar as the Waratahs faltered.

He says there are some really good players in the team who will be doing everything they can to turn the results around.

He adds the players he has been involved with are doing their best to make the club a better place and grow as a playing group.

The Waratahs will be aiming for their first win of the season when they host the Western Force at 8.45pm Friday.

The Brumbies will face the Rebels at 8.45pm Saturday.
