Highlanders ready to host pro-rugby match with crowd

As New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed what many sports fans had been hoping yesterday afternoon, the Highlanders and Forsyth Barr Stadium are already springing into action to make those hopes a reality for Saturday.

One News reports that Highlanders CEO Roger Clark says they had planned a lot of scenarios but this was always going to be the best one.

Tickets for Saturday night’s Highlanders-Chiefs clash went on sale soon after the Prime Minister’s announcement and already fans are flocking to get their hands on them.

He says during the game day every seat will have the Ministry of Health QR code behind it and during the cleaning process, it will be three-folds compared to pre-COVID-19.

Officials are hoping to get similar crowd numbers on Saturday night as experienced in 2017 when the Highlanders faced the British and Irish Lions in front of a packed-out crowd.

Clark adds that it is about getting the country back to business and back to normal.

The Highlanders will face the Chiefs at 7.05pm Saturday while the Blues will host the Hurricanes at 3.35pm Sunday.
