Health Ministry looking at 24-hours service at more health centres in the future

Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says with the increase in the number of doctors employed with the Ministry, they are looking at having more health centres in the country open 24 hours.

While visiting the Wakanisila community in Nasinu, Dr Waqainabete says that 7 years ago they had only 400 doctors, but now there are more than 900 doctors employed by the Health Ministry.

He says with the increase in the number, the Makoi Health Centre will now operate until 10pm compared to the 4pm closing in the past, and in the future, they are looking at 24-hours service.

Some health centres that are operating 24 hours are Valelevu and Nausori.

Dr Waqainabete has also highlighted that the health services provided at the Nausori, Makoi and Valelevu health centres are similar to those provided by the CWM Hospital in Suva as most of the doctors working in Suva are also working at these centres.
