75 medical interns were today reminded by the Health Minister, Dr Atonio Lalabalavu, that there will be a lot at stake as they need to meet the expectations of the Ministry and the needs of the people of Fiji.

While speaking to the interns during their orientation, Dr Lalabalavu says the next two years, interns will be introduced to the field of medicine and health service delivery.

The Minister reminded them of the oath they undertook during their graduation two weeks ago because their practice as a doctor is important to the lives of the people of Fiji.

He says they are employed by the Government through the Ministry of Civil Service and the Ministry of Health and there are values and codes of conduct that will guide them and they should abide by.

He adds they have two years to prove that they are worth it to be a doctor in Fiji and he told them to work hard.

Dr Lalabalavu also told the interns to respect their colleagues, registrars, consultants, nurses and hospital staff as they will be part of the team.

He says their attitude matters, and if they are not careful, it can impact negatively on their career.

The Minister also urged the interns to set clear boundaries and ensure it does not clash with the boundary set by the hospital and Ministry.

He also reminded them to be careful with social media and respect the confidentiality of patient information.

The internship will be based at the CWM Hospital, Suva.
