3 businessmen arrested in separate drug raids

Three businessmen and a Health Inspector are among twelve people arrested following drug raids conducted by Police around the country.

Police confirm that a team of officers arrested a 34-year-old Health Inspector in Savusavu yesterday after dried leaves believed to be marijuana was allegedly found in his office.

People tipped off Police about the Health Inspector.

The three businessmen were all arrested in the Western Division.

In the first case, a 43-year-old businessman was allegedly found with drugs believed to be marijuana and methamphetamine at his house in Naikabula in Lautoka.

The Western Division Taskforce which conducted the raid also found $7,000 cash at the house.

Among those also arrested in this raid was another businessman in his 30s and a 49-year-old man.

In a separate raid jointly conducted by officers from Lautoka and Namaka, a 39-year-old businessman and a 36-year-old woman were allegedly found with drugs believed to be marijuana and methamphetamine in Legalega in Nadi. Police also found $1600 cash.

A 34-year-old technician was also arrested in Votualevu after being allegedly found with drugs believed to be methamphetamine.

All these suspects are in Police custody awaiting the drug analysis reports.

Police trying to identify owner of  Ra marijuana farm

A farmer which Police had been tracking for his alleged involvement in drug-related activities has been arrested in Savusavu.

The 40-year-old man was allegedly found with more than a dozen sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Police had acted on information received from the public.

In a separate case, a team of Police officers are trying to identify the owner of a farm in Ra where more than 20 marijuana plants were found yesterday.

There were four other separate arrests in Nadi and Ba where people were allegedly found with sachets of marijuana.
