Good news for WOWS Kids Fiji as the Fiji Government will be assisting the organisation to purchase a piece of land to build a Resource Centre for children living with cancer.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad confirmed this in response to a request from the Co-Founder of WOWS Kids Fiji, Sina Kami, who revealed that they require a piece of land to open their Resource Centre.

Speaking during the launch of the 2023 Fiji Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Professor Prasad says one in two children diagnosed with cancer are most likely to die.

He says this is due to the lack of proper medical care and lack of information on childhood cancer.

He says in Fiji, the most common childhood cancer is Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, followed by a brain tumour.

He also acknowledged WOWS Kids Fiji for not only saving young lives but providing a much-needed source of strength to the parents and families of young cancer patients.

He says creating awareness on childhood cancer should be everyone’s responsibility therefore, the government has allocated $655,000 for outreach and awareness programmes.

The Co-Founder of WOWS Kids Fiji, Sina Kami says saving lives of children is important which is possible through the support of people and the government.

Kami says the organisation aims to collect $300,000 every year to support children and provide them with much-needed treatment, transport assistance and medicines.

She says sometimes parents are not confident enough to talk about their child’s condition because people often say that the child is sick because of a curse.

She is also requesting business houses, communities and families to give them 15 minutes of their day so the team can create awareness about childhood cancer in the month of August.
