Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman

The Coalition Government is making sure that Ministries and government officials are mindful of ensuring that they do not waste taxpayer funds on unnecessary things.

When questioned by fijivillage News on wastage, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad says there needs to be prudent thinking on how various types of expenditure is incurred.

Professor Prasad says there are activities that happen in government everyday like meetings and workshops but Permanent Secretaries and civil servants have been reminded that they should always keep in mind that they need to do more with less.

When asked if there should be policies in place to minimise wastage of funds, Professor Prasad says there are regulations that allow government officials to use funds for official purposes and government activities.

Professor Prasad says abuse of funds has happened in the past, and some of them will continue to happen in every government’s tenure so the Coalition Government has taken a very serious view on the abuse that used to happen in the past to make sure it is not repeated.
