Minister for Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu says the Government has so far distributed around 500 ration packs in the Western Division, more than 100 packs have been distributed to families in the Central Division and around 50 packs have been distributed in the Northern Division.

Seruiratu says this distribution is just from the government and there are other stakeholders who are also helping people on the ground.

He confirms more than 4,000 people are still taking shelter in 148 evacuation centres around the country.

104 families are in these evacuation centres.

Seruiratu says most of the evacuation centres are active in the Western Division.

He says people in evacuation centres have been provided with ration packs to sustain them and help them to get back to their normal lives.

The Minister for Disaster Management adds they are also liaising with other stakeholders to return the evacuees to their communities however this is subject to health-related and other issues.

Seruiratu visited people affected by severe flooding in Narata, Nalagi, Naduri and Semo in Nadroga and Nawajikuma in Nadi.

The residents in these areas also received ration packs.
