By giving blood and plasma, we are sharing life and we are encouraged to share often.

This was the sentiments echoed by the Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services Doctor James Fong while officiating at the World Blood Donor Day in Labasa.

Dr. Fong says this day is about raising awareness that blood and plasma donations save lives as the theme this year encourages.

He says people with Chronic diseases or complications can benefit from donated blood in terms of treatment and support.

He adds as part of this year’s celebration, the World Health Organization has listed objectives like celebrating and thanking individuals who donate blood and encourage more people to become new donors, encourage people in good health to donate blood regularly, to transform the quality of life for transfusion dependent patients and help to build a secure blood supply in all countries in the world.

Dr.Fong further says highlighting the critical roles of voluntary non remunerated regular blood and plasma donations in achieving universal access to safe blood products for all populations and mobilize support at national, regional and global levels among governments and development partners to invest in, strengthen and sustain national blood programmes are also some of the objectives listed by the World Health Organization for this year’s celebration.

He also urged people to donate blood and save a life.
