The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar is urging women to have their regular doctor check-ups because early detection will save lives.

While officiating at the Soroptimist Pinktober, Rural Women’s Day and World Food Day celebration in Ba, Akbar says her experiences with the Health Ministry and the data for every year or month is alarming and shocking.

She says every life lost to any form of cancer has an impact on the whole nation and the family as well.

Akbar says women hide their problems from their families because they feel they will be criticised.

She adds support from family members is important when one family member is diagnosed with breast cancer or any form of cancer.

The Minister is also urging women to grow their own food as this will help in controlling non-communicable diseases in the country.

She says NCD’s are diseases that people bring upon themselves through an unhealthy lifestyle.
