Year 8 students of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church College Fiji got to meet their Swire Shipping Fijian Drua heroes at a reception hosted by the Australian High Commission.

The students are part of the Get into Rugby PLUS program which is one of the six sport-for-development programs in Fiji the Australian Government supports, and their partners Rugby Australia, Oceania Rugby, UN Women and ChildFund Rugby.

Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Ewen McDonald says Australia and Fiji have so much in common, their geography, shared history and love for rugby.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka was also part of the reception at the High Commission.

McDonald says the Australian Government though PacificAus Sports is a proud partner of Rugby Australia in supporting the Fijian Drua Men’s and Women’s teams.

He says this gathering signifies rugby’s ability to reach beyond the field of elite sports and to make a meaningful impact in children’s lives, helping them to grow into exemplary role models.

The High Commissioner also noted that he looks forward to the incredible scenes and electric atmosphere when the Drua teams take to the field in their upcoming home games in Fiji.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says now it is not what Australia can do for Fiji, now with the Vuvale partnership it is what they can do with Fiji.

Rabuka’s message to the students and the Drua team was to live life to the fullest.

The Drua Men’s team will play the Blues on Feb 24th in their first round of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific.
