Gavoka sees the $1 per child per day as vote buying

SODELPA Leader, Viliame Gavoka

SODELPA Leader, Viliame Gavoka has labelled the government's initiative of $1 per child per day as vote buying.

While responding to the government’s announcement of the 2022-2023 National Budget, Gavoka says prior to the budget, citizens interviewed by some media companies on the streets of Suva were crying out for the government to decrease the high cost of food and fuel.

Gavoka says the government must firstly address the resounding complaints over the exorbitant food and fuel prices that are slowly crippling the family incomes in our struggling nation.

He adds that giving out $1 per child per day for 6 months is not only misdirected, but also an insult to our people that this government expects to win their votes at the purchase price of $1 per child per day.

The SODELPA Leader further says that under the Bainimarama Government, foreign investments have been stagnant largely due to Fiji’s politically unstable democracy and challenges to investor friendly conditions.

Gavoka is calling on the government to realize the harsh realities that ordinary people faced while the FijiFirst Government prioritized money spent on improving their image.
