Lawyer and former politician Dorsami Naidu will be forming a new political party to contest the 2026 general elections and says they want to take the country forward with the support of a young generation of politicians blended with experience and belief in self sacrifice for the common good of present and future generations.

Naidu, in a statement says the groundwork has begun for the registration of the new proposed political party and further details will be made public in due course.

He says though the election of the People's Coalition Government has seen the restoration of people's freedoms and rights, the effect has not been given to policies to create confidence, give hope, bring unity tolerance and trust to function as one people and one nation.

Naidu says unfortunately these rights and freedoms cannot exist in a vacuum.

He says there is a total loss of confidence in people as the health, education, police and economic systems are in tatters while the judiciary appears to be losing public confidence. The lawyer says there is a crisis of leadership where instead of making the country and the people first priority, political leaders are acting as though they are part of a Shakespearean theatre group.

He says he is saying this because this nation and its people are crying out for leadership and looking for a Utopian like future for themselves and future generations.

Naidu says however, it appears that this is not possible with the existing political parties in government.

He says people have seen their living standards in the past two years in a downward spiral with the staggered $5 an hour minimum wage rate no longer feasible while parliamentarians took an instant pay hike.

The lawyer says the hourly wage rate, even though increased to $4.50 last year with a further raise to $5 in April this year, it is not enough to sustain ordinary workers considering the price of food items.

He further says making 21 basic food items VAT free is not the solution to uplift the standard of living of ordinary workers and it was there before the current Government came into power two years ago.

Naidu says it appears that a lot of the 21 items benefit the restaurants , hoteliers and other food outlets but their prices on the finished products continues to rise.

He says a new party which is transparent, believes in democratic principles and has people who don’t believe in “I” but “us” or “we” and with total commitment to the overall development of this country is what many people are calling for.

Naidu says being a former staunch National Federation Party supporter, he has been approached by many people to form a new political party and prepare for the 2026 polls.

He says they already have people from a broad spectrum, especially youths, wanting to be part of this movement for real change.

Naidu says they have, over the last four decades, failed to understand who or what they are but have boxed themselves into a corner.

He adds they need, now, to stand up and create their own destiny through unity, tolerance, trust and good governance.
