Action from Japan v Fiji in the Pacific Nations Cup

The Fiji Water Flying Fijians are expecting Japan to bring in a lot of speed in their Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup final clash this weekend and coach Mick Byrne says Fiji will need to set their defence early in order to counter that.

Byrne says he feels Japan will not only bring some of that physicality, but they will bring  a lot of line speed in defence and around the corner and attack.

Byrne adds the Flying Fijians are going to need to be very sharp getting away from their setpiece to get around the corner and be in a position to make their tackles.

He says he thinks everything else has been going well for them and they have been able to play the physical sides so far and they have been able to deal well with the physical nature of the game.

Meanwhile, Japan coach Eddie Jones had earlier said that they are focused on lifting the PNC title this year.

He says the last time they won the title was back in 2019 but they will want to repeat it again this year and in front of their home fans.

The Flying Fijians will take on Japan in the PNC final at 10.05pm Saturday in Osaka, Japan.
