The Fiji Water Flying Fijians’ training camp in Welagi, Taveuni has not only enlightened the fans but has also given some of the players a glimpse of what the village life is like.

Hooker Sam Matavesi revealed that experiencing what it is like to be living in a village setting has given him a chance to know the life his father and grandparents lived in the village.

Matavasesi says it is the best experience he has ever had with the Flying Fijians team in Fiji ever since being in the squad for the past 10 years.

This is Matavesi’s first trip to Taveuni and he believes that it has been an amazing experience so far.

The Vanuabalavu native is a vital member of the squad and is expected to give his best to take charge of the front row and the scrums during the July Test Series which kicks off on the 22nd of this month at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Meanwhile Flying Fijians prop, Eroni Mawi says this is a new experience as it is the first time for the Flying Fijians to be training in a village.

He says it actually takes most of them back to when they used to be playing club rugby in local competitions.

Mawi says this is a really good initiative as it also takes them back to their roots and it keeps them humble.

The FIJI Water Flying Fijians take on Tonga on the 22nd before playing Samoa in Apia a week later on the 29th before facing Japan on August 5th in Tokyo.
