The National Disaster Management Office is calling on members of the public living along the Naboutini Flats, Yarawa Flats and Galoa Flats along coastal Serua to be vigilant and remain on high alert as heavy rain has caused flash flooding along these areas.

The NDMO is pleading with drivers to exercise caution as heavy rain has led to reduced visibility on the roads.

They say police are currently on the ground to monitor traffic.

They will continue to work with them to ensure the safety of the general public commuting along Queens Highway.

Members of the public residing in these areas are strongly advised to be on high alert as high tide is expected at 1am.

The NDMO stresses that the safety of every individual is always of paramount importance to them so the general public need to strictly adhere to advisories issued by the relevant authorities.

Contact the Fiji Police Force or the National Fire Authority should you need assistance to move to higher ground.

Information on designated evacuation centres are accessible on the NDMO website on:https://www.ndmo.gov.fj/

NDMO is strongly advising members of the public to stay away and refrain from attempting to cross or swim in flooded rivers, streams, drains, roads, and walkways where the water is above knee level.

A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain affects the Fiji group.

The Nadi Weather Office says expect occasional rain, heavy at times and a few thunderstorms over the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

Expect occasional showers, heavy at times and isolated thunderstorms over Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, the Western parts of Viti Levu including Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba,Tavua, Rakiraki and interior of Ba, Ra Nadroga and Navosa. Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas.
