Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar says since its inception, FijiCare Insuarance Limited has paid $21 million in claims to 16,619 people under the Micro Bundle Insurance scheme.

Akbar highlighted this when asked by SODELPA MP Mikaele Leawere on the eligibility requirements for social welfare recipients.

She says people have to be recipients of one of the four social protection programs and one of the criteria is to be vaccinated.

Akbar adds to date, they have 86,000 people under these four social protection programs and all of them are covered under the Micro Bundle Insurance.

Akbar also highlighted that in 2018 and 2019, the government in partnership with FijiCare Insurance limited introduced the micro bundle insurance for all civil servants and social welfare recipients.

Another SODELPA MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau then asked if a cost-benefit analysis has been done for the FijiCare Micro Bundle Insurance.

Akbar responded by saying that Ro Filipe should keep quiet if it is hard for him to give credit to the government.

The Minister says a total of around 11,000 beneficiaries were initially covered with a total cover of $10,000.

Akbar adds this included 3,000 for life insurance, 1,000 for funeral expenses, 3,000 for fire and 30,000 for personal injury.
