Fiji stands with the United States of America as the two countries work towards winning the battle to overcome COVID-19.

This was the message from Fiji’s Chief of Protocol Jiko Rasoqosoqo at the US Independence Day Celebrations at US Embassy in Suva.

He says Fiji and the US enjoy an enduring relationship, a relationship nurtured over time and strengthened with the two countries close cooperation in international peacekeeping, regional security, environmental conservation, cultural exchanges, economic and development cooperation among the others.

Rasoqosoqo adds the strength of this relationship was witnessed recently in the timely and generous assistance of the US government towards Fiji’s rehabilitation and recovery efforts after TC Harold and Fiji’s present battle against COVID-19.

He says Fiji greatly values this relationship.

US Ambassador to Fiji, Joseph Cella says part of what drew him to Fiji was Fiji’s beautiful representation of faith and family and the best way he serves and gives back to the US was in Fiji.

Cella also congratulated the government on how they dealt with COVID-19.

He says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Health Minister Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete and their teams' leadership in dealing with COVID-19 has been strong, transparent and vigilant.

The event was attended by President Jioji Konrote, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Government Ministers and Members of Parliament, members of the business community and the diplomatic corps.
