Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr. James Fong says one of the areas of great need in Fiji is the ability to rehabilitate people who have had some disabilities incurred or they have been born with it.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News on what their partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) means to Fiji, Dr. Fong says KOICA will be funding the construction of the Rehabilitation Hospital in Tamavua.

He says this will formally set us up in the area of rehabilitation medicine.

The Permanent Secretary says the ability to rehabilitate Fijians constructively so that they become productive is an important part of the Ministry of Health’s service but they need to formalise and strengthen that through the engagement with KOICA.

He says the Tamavua Rehabilitation Hospital is a medium term project as this year they are more focused on demolishing the old building.

Dr Fong adds once they have demolished and prepared the land-site, then the Korean contractors will come in and commence construction.
