For the people of Fiji, stronger efforts are on the horizon as the country deepens its defence partnership with India to help protect communities, safeguard borders and improve Fiji’s ability to respond quickly to natural disasters, ensuring a safer and more resilient future.

The Ministry of Defence says the collaboration was led by the Minister for Defence and Veterans Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, along with senior officials including Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces who met India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh for the insights.

They say both countries agreed to expand military training and joint exercises to ensure that Fiji’s personnel are better equipped to handle security challenges and respond quickly during crises.

The Ministry says Fiji also explored opportunities to procure advanced surveillance drones, radar systems and naval equipment from India to strengthen its maritime security operations, which will directly benefit communities by protecting Fiji's borders and coastal areas.

They further add that India’s extensive experience in disaster response and crisis management was highlighted, with both nations agreeing to work together more closely on humanitarian assistance efforts.

The Ministry says this partnership will help ensure that Fiji is well-prepared to support its citizens during emergencies.
