Fiji Rugby needs the public’s help to clear it’s debts

Please we need your help.

This is the plea from Fiji Rugby Football Union Trust Board interim Chairperson Peter Mazey.

Mazey says at the moment, the Union cannot afford to be asking money from the government to clear off their debt because they are not the only sport in the country as there are other sports that the government is supporting financially.

He says the government has been supporting FRU in the past years financially but there is only an amount allocated for the Union per financial year.

Mazey says they will now rely on funding from the sponsors as they have been getting funding from other countries and different organisations for developments like the Australian government through agreements, the New Zealand government that has been providing funds for the development of youth rugby and also assistance from World Rugby for development stages and all the international tournaments we participate in.

He says their profitability and the funds to clear this debt will come from the support of the Fijian public attending international rugby games in Fiji.

Mazey has urged the public to come out and watch the Fiji Water Flying Fijians play Tonga in Lautoka on July 22nd, as all the gate takings from that match and any other international tournaments in Fiji will help in the raising of the funds to clear the debts.

He adds they might have to go out and ask the public for assistance and jokingly said they might ask everyone for a dollar each.
